I have had a rewarding football career at Lillie B. Williamson High School in Mobile, AL where I played under the leadership of head coach Bobby Parrish. A 5A All-State selection by the Alabama Sports Writer’s Association and finalist for the 5A Lineman of the Year Award in 2007, I also participated in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic as a senior and the AHSAA North/South All-Star game as a junior. Rivals.com listed me as the 28th-best offensive guard prospect in the nation, the 15th-best recruit from the state of Alabama, and gave me a three star rating.
My football career continued after high school as I began my collegiate career at Copiah-Lincoln Community College (2007-08) in Wesson, Mississippi. While at Copiah-Lincoln, I earned an All-Region XII selection after collecting 63 tackles with seven sacks and nine stops for loss in seven games. In 2009, I continued to improve my football stats after arriving on the campus of Auburn University. While playing for the Tigers, I earned consensus All-American First Team selection (AP, Walter Camp and FWAA) and All-SEC First Team choice. I made some major accomplishments while at Auburn University. I was a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award (Top Defender), honored as the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year, the recipient of Rotary Lombardi Trophy, awarded annually to the nation’s top collegiate lineman, and later named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the BCS Championship game as Auburn University became the Collegiate National Champions for 2010-2011 football season.
As a first round draft pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions drafted me. For five NFL seasons, I displayed a combination of athleticism and power having contributed to the defensive line rotations of the Detroit Lions (2011-14) and St. Louis Rams (2015) where I played in 61 games. In 2016, I was signed on with the New Orleans Saints where I have been considered to be a major contributor in the success of the Saints Defensive Unit.
I try to continuously strive to be a major influential factor on the youth in the Mobile area as my foundation continues to return to Mobile each year to share the special talents of a professional athlete through my annual Football Camp called Nick’s Kids! My girlfriend, Michelle Hall, and I have a one-year-old daughter Norrie Ann Fairley.
